Today I had an inspirational encounter with local artist Bill Daziel at his home studio.
Bill gave me three pieces of his art and spent time talking to me about art and life – what a fun experience.

We spent a fun weekend in a cabin up on Paradise Rd. in the Los Padres Forest just 25 minutes from home. It rained a lot which kept us close to the fire and coffee and each other

Friend of Zinkwazi and co-owner of the indefatigable Color Services, Gabe Cano, can finally rest on his laurels!

The cool folks over at Hipstamatic created a new film and named it after him! The Cano Cafenol film also takes part of it’s name from the famous coffee film processing that Color Services offers (if you’re looking for a fun Holga project, have a roll processed in coffee.)

The film is available in the Soho Hipstapak and gives images a cool enlarger style border and a warm coffee inspired sepia tone… yum.

I installed the Canon Hack Development Kit – CHDK – on my Canon Powershot G9 camera. CHDK is an amazing Open Source project that provides an alternate firmware for Canon Powershot cameras.
With CHDK installed, you can write scripts to control virtually every aspect of the camera.
I created an intervalometer script for CHDK that will trigger the camera to take a photo every 30 seconds for the duration of the HAPPy near-space balloon project that I am working on with Geoff.
An added bonus is that the G9 has temperature sensors on the CCD, battery and lens so the script also logs those along with the battery voltage every time a photo is taken
