about greg lawler

zinkwazi.com is a personal sketch pad where i post photos almost daily of life around me.

images on zinkwazi.com may be licensed for web, print and other media at the PhotoShelter stock agency.
prints are also available, contact me for more information.

greglawler.com is my photography marketing site.

gear:
the cameras i use most of the time are a holga 120 film camera and a digital nikon d200 with a 17-55mm dx lens. many of my photographer friends are moving away from film which is convenient because they are a great source of free film for me :)

processing:
i shoot digital images in raw format (unless the camera only produces jpegs) and generally process my images minimally, mainly because i don’t have the patience to work in photoshop for too long. if i spend more than about 10 min on an image i begin to hate it :)
I do most of my post processing in the adobe photoshop cs3 and photoshop lightroom applications.
i develop my black and white film myself and scan the results on a hi-res epson flatbed scanner. i use a local lab to process my colour film which i also scan with the epson scanner.

zinkwazi:
Besides just being a cool looking word, zinkwazi is the Zulu plural for “African Fish Eagle” (Haliaeetus vocifer), the singular of which is ‘nkwazi.
The ‘nkwazi looks similar to a bald eagle and is pictured below:

There is also a place called Zinkwazi Beach located on the north eastern coast of South Africa where I (Greg Lawler) spent a few great high school years before settling in Santa Barbara, California.
