i got to witness the ancient art of falconry first hand yesterday.
i went hunting very close to my home with this goshawk and its owner dave.**
the goshawk perched on top of utility poles and waited for bunnies or ducks to be flushed by dave and i.
after 2 hours or so, it was able to close the deal and tag a bunny as it crossed the service road right here…
** warning: there is a strong chance that you will see a dead bunny if you look at this slideshow.

while i was at it i put the pages into a slideshow…
i revisited my digital pinhole camera project, this time armed with better material for the pinhole and a nikon d200 instead of the canon 10d.
i ordered some .002 in brass shim stock from McMaster-Carr, purveyors of everything.
basically, you take a body cap, make a huge hole in it and then cover that with a piece of brass shim containing a pinhole.
the resulting images have an interestingly eerie quality to them.

we took the kids up the pass to east camino cielo to play in the snow yesterday.
it actually snowed on us while we were up there, we all had a blast!
(snow in santa barbara is a big deal, it even made the front page of the local paper)
due to a power distribution error, zulu, the server that hosts zinkwazi.com was able to take a much needed rest for about 12 hours.
power and ethernet have now been restored and all appears to be operating as normal
